Workshop content

We have recently revised our course offerings to make them modular, just one day each, and to empower students with the knowledge and skills they need to take full control of their own creative process.

Film Exposure and Development. 1 Day module £175.00

During this module you will receive instruction in how to correctly expose film. This is the vital basis for all successful photography. This knowledge will allow you to produce vibrant, memorable prints and is recommended for everyone starting out in black and white analogue photography. The course includes the opportunity to shoot film on a short photowalk followed by the chance to develop your own film, learning the control measures necessary to make printable negatives. You will learn to “see” the world differently and to plan your photographs before you ever trip the shutter. By the end of the day you will also make a contact print of your negatives and you will be shown how to analyse your negatives and select a suitable image to print.

Basic Printing. 1 Day module £175.00

This module will introduce you to the darkroom equipment and processes necessary for successful photographic printmaking. You will be shown how to make tests strips of your chosen negatives before moving on to making prints. Basic print control measures, such as dogging and burning, will also be taught. By the end of this day you will be confidently selecting and mounting your own negatives before printing them, all with minimal supervision (although guidance will always be available.)

Advanced Printing. 1 Day module £175.00

Designed for those who are already competent darkroom practitioners, this day module introduces more advance printing techniques including f-stop printing, pre-flashing, contrast control, split-grade printing and other advanced print control techniques.

Photo finishing and Presentation. 1 Day module £175.00

For the serious photographic artist we offer a one day course in photo finishing including print toning, photo spotting, framing and presentation. Alternative print techniques such as lith printing can also be taught.
